As AI-assisted coding went from "fancy auto-complete" to "we can vibecode almost anything", many people online and in my life began to express increasing grief that the career and passion they built their life around was rapidly being eaten by AI. The skills they prize, enjoy using, and worked so hard to build are available to anyone with a $20 subscription. The future is uncertain and it doesn't show signs of becoming more certain any time soon. It does certainly seem like big changes are coming to the software industry. To some degree everyone involved with programming can understand these feelings.
Instead of mourning, I think the correct path is to continue to find the joy in programming. That's what led me to build OtherFunc. Why would you write serverless functions in Forth or brainfuck? You wouldn't, but it can be fun. I've always loved playing with programming languages like Forth that are very different from what I get to use every day and a restricted platform with a limited API forces you to think creatively. There's a lot of possibilities to explore there even if they aren't improving your productivity 10x. Hopefully others can find similar enjoyment in this tool.
On the other hand, if you are going to have an LLM write all your code and never look at it, why not have it written in Forth or BASIC? Sure, there are a lot of practical reasons not to, but one of those reasons isn't because the cloud-based platform doesn't exist. There's an MCP server available to use and LLMs are pretty good at writing code in any of the supported languages. Point your openclaw/moltbot/picoclaw/nanobot at the reference pages and go wild. The more LLMs writing code in esoteric languages the better.
